Beyond the Conversation: KX2

Thank you to Ruth Avra and Dana Kleinman for joining us on Immersive Conversations! Their collaborative art practice highlights the connection between nature and humankind’s habit of altering natural landscapes, which often results in conflict. Their artwork is often rooted in mathematics and combines  metalwork and painting as an apt metaphor for the relationship between nature and people.

Bold and bright, Ruth and Dana’s large-scale sculptures draw viewers in from afar. Up-close, we can admire their textural details, created with multi-layered painting and hand-sanded metal and making each alloy an individual signature. The experience of Ruth and Dana’s sculptures changes depending on the distance at which they are viewed.

The sisters’ artwork for Fairgrounds, Storm Purge, builds on  themes of conservation  by  playfully investigating the human toll on nature presented  through a mathematical prism. By exploring geometry and the connection of opposing forces, this sculpture aims to create a moment of pause and reflection, inviting the viewer to escape current stresses and find balance.
