Woodson Warriors Scholarships Fund Art Auction

Fairgrounds St. Pete is a proud sponsor of the 2nd annual Woodson Warriors Scholarship Fund Art Auction!

Founded by Fairgrounds Artist Jane Bunker in conjunction with the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum, the Woodson Warriors Scholarship Fund helps cover the college expenses of deserving African American scholars from St. Pete. Fairgrounds has donated 4 Preview Tickets for auction. These preview tickets provide access to the Fairgrounds experience before we open to the public this spring.

In addition to Jane Bunker’s artwork, Steven Kenny, Mark Aeling, Brenda McMahon and Duncan McClellan have all donated artwork to the auction. The mission of the scholarship fund is the simple yet powerful goal of making higher education more accessible to African American students in Pinellas County.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the auction will take place virtually on Sunday, March 14 at 5 pm, with the live auction taking place at 5:30 pm. To attend, register by using one of the following methods below:

  • Online Registration here

  • Text the word “woodson” to 72727

  • Scan QR code

Registered event guests are invited to schedule a private preview of the artworks up for auction with Jane in-person at the Dr. Carter G. Woodson Museum. This socially distant experience will allow patrons to see the work up close prior making bids. “We want the supporters and collectors attending the online auction to have the opportunity to see the artworks in person and are excited to provide this socially distanced personal experience,” said James Mack, a Woodson Warriors Scholarships Fund Board Member. Guests can click here to schedule time with Jane Bunker.

Applications for the Woodson Warriors scholarships are open until April 1. Those who are interested can apply via the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum website.

Jane Bunker, Carnival

On view in Fairgrounds St, Pete’s Mermaid Star Motel Lobby, Carnival is a vibrant celebration of light, rhythm and color inspired by the beauty of lilies. It expresses the joy its artist, Jane Bunker, experiences from the perfection in nature, along with the tremendous happiness she feels, knowing that her art is making a difference in someone’s life.
